Plain-English definitions for the terminology used across Coach's Corner.
- 1X2
- A betting market where you pick either the home win (1), a draw (X) or the away win (2).
- Accumulator
- A single bet that links multiple selections; all must win for a payout.
- Asian Handicap
- A spread that gives one team a virtual advantage or disadvantage, removing the draw option and creating balanced odds.
- Bankroll
- The total amount of money set aside for betting.
- Bookmaker Margin
- The percentage of total stakes the bookmaker expects to keep as profit, also called the overround.
- Both Teams To Score (BTTS)
- A wager that both sides will score at least one goal during the match.
- Cash Out
- The option to settle a bet early for a reduced payout, locking in profit or limiting loss.
- Correct Score
- Predicting the exact final score of the match.
- Decimal Odds
- Odds expressed as a single number that includes the stake; the payout equals the stake multiplied by the decimal.
- Double Chance
- A bet covering two of the three possible outcomes, such as home win or draw.
- Fractional Odds
- Odds displayed as a fraction (e.g., 5/2) showing the profit relative to the stake.
- Goal Line
- The total‑goals line used for over/under and Asian handicap bets, acting as the benchmark number.
- Half-time/Full-time
- A combined bet that forecasts the result at half‑time and at the end of the match.
- Live Betting
- Placing wagers on events while the match is in progress, with odds updating in real time.
- Moneyline
- Straight win‑only odds, usually shown as a positive or negative number indicating how much you win per unit wagered.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether the total number of goals (or points) will be higher or lower than a set line.
- Pre-match
- Betting on outcomes before the match begins.
- Responsible Gambling
- Practices and tools, such as deposit limits and self‑exclusion, that help you bet safely within your means.
- Self-Exclusion
- A voluntary request to suspend your account for a set period, preventing access to betting services.
- Single Bet
- A straightforward wager on a single outcome with one selection.
- Stake
- The amount of money placed on a bet.
- Stake Limit
- The maximum amount a bookmaker will accept on a particular market.
- Unit
- A standard bet size, often 1% of your bankroll, used to size wagers consistently.
- Value Bet
- A wager where the odds offered are higher than the true probability suggests, giving the bettor an expected edge.
- Vig (Juice)
- The commission built into the odds that a bookmaker charges for taking a bet.
